    Who Am I?

I am a ‘Bama girl through and through. I moved to Tennessee in 2018 and have (surprisingly) fallen in love with the state. Therapy has personally transformed my life in so many ways. As a black girl from the deep south of Alabama, I grew up in a family full of self-identifying “strong black women'' who had little, if any, relationship with their own emotional experiences. I repeated these same patterns with myself until the unexpected deaths of my sister and brother in 2013 and 2014 pushed me into therapy as a means to survive. That personal therapy journey that began with grief over 10 years ago led to a personal transformation I did not think possible, and in that process of healing and every phase of healing since, I have learned and embraced the beauty and freedom of living authentically. Now, I am honored to partner with my clients on their journeys to do the same.

How did I end up here?

I took the long route to social work, initially beginning my undergraduate journey at the University of Alabama at Birmingham as a Biology major with a pre medicine focus. I’m sure you’re already wondering how I ended up here, so here’s the short version: during my internships in medicine, I found that I hated bodily fluids, but loved discussing the personal lives of patients and helping them address barriers they faced with meeting physical needs, emotional needs, and in their relationships. So during my senior year of college, I ditched the biology and pre medicine credits to graduate with a degree in sociology. I then obtained my master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Alabama, and relocated to Memphis, TN in 2018, where I obtained a master’s degree in Public Administration and a graduate certification in Nonprofit Leadership and philanthropy from the University of Memphis. I have found that I love the state of Tennessee and relocated to Nashville, TN in 2022 to be closer to family.

Since my career began in 2015, I have worked with many vulnerable populations in multiple acute care and outpatient settings, from homeless men to pregnant, postpartum, and parenting people with co-occuring mental health diagnoses and substance use disorders. I have intensive training in many therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Internal Family Systems, and combine these modalities and others to meet you where you are in therapy and help you reach your goals.

    What’s my approach to therapy?

My style as a therapist is nothing like what you may have seen in the movies. You will not find me sitting in a chair, looking over my glasses with my legs crossed, and taking notes while you lay on a couch telling me about your problems. I view therapy as a partnership, and I will meet you exactly where you are, striving to provide a safe place for you. In our sessions you will have permission to just be. Here, you can take off the masks, the titles, and the expectations put on you by others. As we navigate through the things that come up in this space, I will be with you every step of the way, utilizing my holistic therapeutic approach to help you embrace the power of this state, and equip you with skills to transform your life for the better. At times, I will be a shoulder to cry on and at other times I will be a coach to hold you accountable. But in our work together, you can be confident that you'll never be left alone in your vulnerability.
